about

This track was written in response to the awful Grenfell Tower tragedy, which happened in the middle of my 30 day writing challenge in June 2017. It emerged straight away that residents had been expressing concerns about fire safety before the fire, but it sounded like their concerns had been glossed over.

The inquiry into what happened and how is ongoing... Hundreds of UK buildings still have the dangerous cladding which allowed the fire to spread, and property management companies are arguing with residents about who is going to foot the bill. People who own the lease for flats like these are unable to move whilst it’s unresolved. You can read more about the campaign started by the Grenfell residents at justice4grenfell.org

lyrics

You can only get away with it for so long:
Cutting corners
Taking advantage
Taking from the weak
Hoarding what was never yours
Moral bankruptcy

There always comes a time
when the birds come home to roost
There always comes a time
when the sorry facts reveal the truth.

There will always come a time
When justice will prevail
When the scales fall back to balance
When the powerful have failed

May I tell you, you’re on borrowed time
Like a prisoner on death row
You can only get away with it for so long
until injustice is exposed
